Handling & safety guidelines
- Let the lyophilised vial reach room temperature before adding solvent. Cold glass plus cold water slows dissolution and encourages clumping.
- Run the bacteriostatic water down the inside wall of the vial. Never inject the stream directly onto the peptide cake — shear force degrades the peptide.
- Swirl gently or leave the vial to dissolve on its own. Do not shake; agitation denatures the chain and produces foam.
- Bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol) is the default solvent for multi-use vials. Sterile water has no preservative and is single-use only.
- Store reconstituted vials at 2–8 °C, upright, away from light. Most peptides in solution remain stable for roughly 3–4 weeks; unreconstituted powder keeps far longer in a freezer.
- Swab the stopper with isopropyl alcohol before every draw, and use a fresh sterile needle each time.
- Discard any solution that becomes cloudy, discoloured, or shows particulate. Clarity is not proof of purity, but turbidity is proof of a problem.
- One insulin unit equals 0.01 mL. All tick calculations on this page assume U-100 marking.
